Highlights of Oneplus update:
- OnePlus is installing the Amazon app on the OnePlus 8T device through a software update.
- Oxygen OS 11.0.1.2 adds the shopping app to the flagship in India.
As part of our long-standing partnership with Amazon, the Amazon Shopping App has been pre-loaded on OnePlus devices since the launch of the OnePlus 3 in India. For the OnePlus 8T 5G, we were unable to install the stable Android 11 version of the application at the time of the launch. Due to this reason, we had to update the Amazon application in the latest OTA update for devices in India only. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

First of all what is OTA update?
An over-the-air(OTA) update is the wireless delivery of new software or firmware. Wireless carriers and original equipment manufacturers(OEM) use over-the-air updates to deploy firmware and configure phones to use on their networks over Wi-Fi or mobile broadband. With the size of smartphones tablets and the internet of things(IoT) devices, carriers, and manufacturers have turned to different over-the-air update architecture methods for deploying new operating systems to these devices.
Oxygen OS 11.0.1.2 Oneplus update details:
The system contains a newly added Amazon shopping App which provides a better shopping experience to all the OnePlus 8T users as it could not be installed via PlayStore with optimized experience and ambient display, optimized power consumption. The image quality of the camera has improved by optimizing the Nightscape mode for video, optimize the accuracy of white balance under different settings and the stability of the app has been improved. The network has improved with the availability of Canvas AOD, added horizontal light under customization, and improved the stability of communication.
The Indian model of the OnePlus phone is now receiving the Oxygen OS 11.0.1.2 KBO5DA update, but the strange part is, along with the update it also brings with it the Amazon Shopping App. It seems that OnePlus update is dangerously once again trying to get close to bloatware territory with the updates.
OnePlus was on its way to commit a sin when it confirmed last week that Facebook bloatware would not pre-install on the OnePlus 8T as it did on the OnePlus 8 series and OnePlus Nord. The phones have the Facebook App Installer, Facebook App Manager as part of the System apps and they could not uninstall and as result, OnePlus received a lot of hate comments from the users. Thankfully, the Amazon App that comes with the latest OnePlus 8T Oxygen OS update and can be uninstalled.
Adding Bloatware via OTA updates:
Adding Bloatware via OTA updates pre-loading third-party apps on installing then via system updates can present a monetization opportunity for smartphone OEMs.It is also being viewed that OnePlus 8T recently launched in India as Amazon Exclusive. The e-commerce platform heavily promoted its launch and so it is not surprising to see that the phone company returned back the favor too. However, we are not aware of the deal with two companies or why OnePlus decide to forcefully push the Amazon App on the OnePlus 8T through an OTA.
However, in the upcoming days, it also raises the question, if we are able to see this type of behavior again by the Oxygen OS updates.
