On the launch day itself, Disney+ exceeds over 10 million downloads from the app store(both android and apple store). Disney+ debuts in the OTT platform along with strong competitors like Netflix and amazon prime on November 12, 2019, gained over10 million sign-ups.
The main reason is a collection of both (Marvel and star war) movies and additional to Disney classics. Although there is a login issue, it didn’t affect Disney+ launch. According to a report from the source says the Diney+ app was at no 1 in the app store.Disney+ focussed on original films and television series, which include Disney, 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm (which include star war series), Marvel, National Geographic and Pixar.
Diney+ is currently available in the U.S, Canada, and the Netherlands. As now the Monthly subscription Of Disney+ is $6.99 comparatively low with other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Maybe in Future Disney may increase its subscription cost.
Disney+ will gain around 20 million subscribers in the first year as per the report. Before launching Disney+ Walt Disney has already acquired ESPN+, HULU+, and Hotstar While HULU+ and Hotstar became part of Walt Disney after they acquired 20th Fox Century early March 2019.
Walt Disney executives have already estimated that Disney+ will gain around 80 million global subscribers by 2024, along with ESPN+, HULU+ Disney+ will gain around 160 million global subscribers over the next five years. Disney+ will be launched in India to be available in Hotstar a massive streaming service post-IPL 2020.
According to the report, Hotstar has been downloaded around 50 million times in the past six months. There will be no separate app for Disney+ in India as the whole movie or series collection of Disney+ will merge with Hotstar.
Disney+ also planning original content like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It was reported that Disney will spend up to $500 million in original content for the service.
