After the ban of 59 Chinese Apps including TikTok, WeChat, CamScanner, Xender last month. Now Central Govt. of India has banned 47 more Chinese Apps for violating users’ privacy and sharing data with Chinese firms.
The list of banned apps is not yet released by the Govt.
The freshly banned 47 Chinese apps including many which are clone to the past 59 banned apps. The ban decision comes after the review of Ministry of Telecom. The Ministry has found national security issues including privacy violations of user’s data. Reports suggest that Chinese Apps were sharing user’s data with state authorities of Beijing.
Government sources told media that around 275 Chinese Apps are under the radar and are under review. High-Profile Apps including PUBG and Alibaba are also in the list of the apps under security and privacy concerns. The government said that these apps are engaged in the activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and defence of India.
The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order
