Coronavirus Threat:Intel,Amazon And Sony To Skip World Biggest Phones Show

Top companies around the world to skip the world’s largest mobile exhibition known as the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain this month over concerns of coronavirus. More than 100,000 attendees from nearly 200 countries are expected every year, including major telecom and tech giant exhibiting (except for Apple which prefers its events).

Unlike the previous year, the Mobile World Conference held in this year is in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak, many tech giants are pulling out from Mobile World Conference 2020 which will begin on February 24 -27.

The growing list of tech firms pulling out of MWC due to the risk of infection, including Amazon.Intel, LG Electronics, Sony, Huawei, and ZTE.

“Sony has been closely monitoring the evolving situation following the novel coronavirus outbreak, which was declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization on January 30th, 2020,” Sony says on its website.

Amazon, meanwhile, tells TechCrunch that “due to the outbreak and continued concerns about novel coronavirus, Amazon will withdraw from exhibiting and participating in Mobile World Congress 2020, scheduled for Feb. 24-27 in Barcelona, Spain.”

The MWC organizers say that even will go as usual also show has a big economic impact of 492 million euros this year, and also generates 14,100 part-time jobs, according to the GSMA who design Mobile World Conference.
