Telecom subscribers will be able to call mobile users or numbers through their landline box soon from January 1, 2021. Subscribers have to prefix ‘0’ to call mobiles from the landline. Telecom regulator TRAI had recommended the move in May this year. And will be in action from the first day of the New year 2021.
This decision is been taken in order to open up a fresh number series for mobile callers. The Telecom department has cleared the proposal, accepting sectoral regulator TRAI’s recommendation for having the Prefix ‘0’ to call mobile numbers through a landline.

The 20 November circular of dot said that all the fixed-line subscribers should be provided with ‘0’ dialing facility i.e. STD dialing facility. Further suitable announcements may be fed in the fixed-line switches. To appraise the fixed-line subscribers about the requirement of dialing the prefix ‘0’ for all fixed to mobile calls.
This action to all telecom service operators has allowed till January 1 to implement the directive. They added that there will be no change with respect to dialing numbers for fixed-to fixed, mobile-to-fixed, and mobile-to-mobile calls.
This decision will ensure adequate numbering resources for fixed-line and mobile services. This will bring more connections in the future which will be beneficial to mobile customers at large.
The regulatory body further states that the introduction of dialing a prefix for a particular type of call is not corresponding to increasing the number of digits in the telephone number.
