Russia has successfully deployed its first regiment of hypersonic missile Avangard on Friday, said Defence Ministry. Russia’s defense minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed about the missile had been added to service during a conference call with President Putin.
Shoigu congratulated everyone on this significant event for our country and its armed forces.
Hypersonic weapons can travel at 3,806 mph the speed of sound (Mach 5 and faster), covering vast distances in minutes. They fall into two categories: boost-glide and scramjet. The missile flies into space after launch, but when it comes down, it flies at very high speed, which makes it difficult for defense satellites and radar to detect.
Russia has become one of the countries which have a hypersonic missile, and the speed of Russia’s hypersonic missile is 27 times the speed of sound. China is also developing such hypersonic missile systems. The U.S. is also working in this hypersonic projects since the early 2000s.
Not a single country possesses hypersonic weapons, let alone continental-range hypersonic weapons.

Avangard can carry nuclear weapons up to two megatons, but weapon experts have expressed skepticism about its effectiveness.
Russia had announced about the testing of Avangard in early 2018.
It will not characterize the Russian claims about the Avangard’s capabilities.
Pentagon
Putin has said Russia’s new generation of nuclear weapons can hit in almost any region of the world and can also deface the U.S. deface system.
The Avangard is invulnerable to intercept by any existing and prospective missile defense means of the potential adversary
Mr. Putin said after the test.
Earlier this week president Putin boasted about his countries unique advancement in terms of hypersonic weaponry.
