One of the privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo has been now restored in India after being unreachable since July 1st after some of the users reported.
According to Android Police reports the main cause appeared to be DNS lookup errors while some of the users are telling that the Indian Government appeared to be behind the action.
After a tweet by Duck Duck Go on Saturday morning all the services had been restored.
We’re seeing our services being broadly restored in India. Thank you for all of your reports, bringing attention to this issue
Duck Duck Go said in a tweet
After the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has banned the more than 59 Chinese apps including Tiktok and WeChat saying that “they were engaged in activities … prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India”, according to the press release.
However, it is not clear whether Duck Duck Go has been inadvertently blocked or there was another reason for the outrage.
We have contacted the Indian government but have not yet received a response. We are bewildered on why the Indian government would instruct Indian ISPs to block DuckDuckGo but are optimistic that this will be resolved soon.” a DuckDuckGo spokesperson said.
