DuckDuck Go banned in India by Airtel, Vodafone, and Jio

After the ban of 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Now users from various regions of India are complaining about the ban of Privacy Secured Search Engine -DuckDuck Go. Users using Airtel, Vodafone, and Jio are complaining about the ban on Reddit and Twitter.

DuckDuck Go is the most popular search engine when it comes to privacy. Some users are complaining that the website is displaying “server not reachable” while it is displaying “Banned by DoT” for some users. There is no notification about the ban of DuckDuck Go by DoT (Department of Telecommunications, India). Meanwhile, there is no potential reason to ban DuckDuck Go in India.

No clarification is given by any of the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) about the ban. While DuckDuck Go acknowledged that the search engine is not working for its users. They further said that there are no issues from their end. DuckDuck Go has contacted the ISPs regarding the ban.

It is not the first time when ISPs have banned something of their choice. Earlier, Reliance Jio has banned Porn websites and Telegram. In the Banglore and Delhi regions, DuckDuck Go is not working for the following ISPs –

  • Vodafone 4G (HTTP HOST-based)
  • Airtel 4G (DNS-based, SNI-based)
  • Jio 4G (SNI-based)

While the browser is working for me at the time of writing this article from Airtel 4G. DuckDuck Go is trending on Twitter after the ban.
