In India, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested the first ‘Darknet’ narcotics operative who was held for allegedly exporting a vast amount of psychotropic drugs abroad cleverly and secretly.
The mastermind behind narcotics operative has been identified as Dipu Singh(21) son of the retired army was arrested by the sleuths of the Delhi zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau from Lucknow recently.
Darknet refers to the deeply hidden internet platform that is used for narcotics sale, trading of pornographic content and other criminal activities by using an open-source software Onion Router (ToR) to stay away from enforcement agencies.
“Singh is a major player on the darknet. His listings were found in one of the biggest and reliable darknet markets like Empire Market and Majestic Garden,” NCB Deputy Director General (operations) Rajesh Nandan Srivastava said.
A Bachelor in hotel management from Amity University in Lucknow, Singh initially began with shipping medicines related to erectile dysfunction and fitness supplements to overseas locations using the dark internet facility, but later shifted to transacting in psychotropic drugs under this garb seeing the profit margin in this illegal trade, the DDG added.
The main exporting countries of narcotics operative by Singh are the USA, UK, Romania, Spain and some European nations using the dark web. After conducting Raids,12,000 tablets of various psychotropic drugs were caught from his residence. Within two months NCB seized a total of 55000 tablets as a part of ‘Operation Trance’ that was launched in December last year.
Operation Trance is the secret message of the NCB to crack down illegal drugs that were cleverly being shipped using the dark web. Aside from NCB, some international agencies are also a part of this operation.
