On Friday, a Saudi Arabia based hacker group named OurMine had compromised the main page of Facebook and Twitter leaving a message given below.
The group claimed that they were the same who hacked NFL and ESPN social media accounts last week and this group also hacked the Twitter account of Niantic’s back in 2016. The hijacked account was returned to normal within 30 minutes.
Here is what the official Tweet looked like from the official Facebook Twitter account.
The same message was also posted on the official page of Messanger handle on Twitter.
Here’s a video by Jane Manchun Wong of showing how quickly deleting the hijacker’s tweet and reposting it.
Confirming the account was hacked through a third-party platform. As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised account and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them.in a statement Twitter said
Analysis of the Attack
However, on analysis, it seems that neither Facebook nor Twitter was hacked. On looking at the screenshot it is clear that the tweet had been sent from a third-party app named Khoros. Khoros sells software to help companies use social media to interact with customers and users. Khoros was used to send hijacked Tweets from NFL Accounts and Khorons can also publish Post on Instagram.
Khoros had not responded about the same.
