Unacademy From Youtube Videos To Largest Edtech Startup

Unacademy started as a YouTube channel in 2010by Gaurav Munjal, Roman Saini, Hemesh Singh, and Sachin Gupta
And that has now grown a free education revolution in India. Gaurav and Hemesh were earlier founded Flatchat(an app to find roommates) which was acquired by CommonFloor in 2014. Roman, 24, is a doctor from AIIMS and one of the youngest persons to crack the Civil Services Examination. To pursue his passion he quit the Assistant Collector job for building Unacademy.

It is one of the most recommended educational channels in the country and also high-quality educational content is given for free. Unacademy has raised the amount of $500,000 in the first round of seeding in April 2016. The company launched the Andriod and IOS apps in mid-2016. Unacademy currently has higher than 10k registered instructors and 13 million, users.

The four-year-old startup is in talks to raise $100 million at a valuation of $400 million. Recently they raised & 50 million from Udaan and Haptik founders. Unacademy also introduced its Plus Subscription, and since its launch, more than 50k learners have subscribed to Unacademy Plus. A Major revenue comes in from Subscription plans.

The company started offering learning materials in multiple languages. Last year Unacademy has obtained Jaipur-based online exam preparation platform Wifistudy at $10 million deal. The company also introduces various platforms such as Unacademy, Unacademy Plus, Wifistudy, Chamomile Tea with Toppers, Unacademy Studios and The Solutionists with monthly more than 10 million visitors.

The company is battling against opponents such as Byju’s, Toppr, Khan Academy, etc.BYJU is the most valued EdTech Startup in the world valued at $5.4 billion founded in 2011 by Byju Raveendran. By 2021 EdTech segment is expected to cross $2 billion markets in India.More than 3000 ed-tech startups in India in 2018.
