Due to the sudden disappearance, those who were looking to join WhatsApp for the first time were not able to install it via the Play Store.

While WhatsApp disappeared from Play Store, WhatsApp for Business app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp.w4b was still available. The app came back in Play Store after disappearing for almost a day.
