In order to give priorities to original reports, Google is changing its search algorithm. On Thursday, In an official blog post, Google insisted that “Recently, we’ve made ranking updates and published changes to our search rater guidelines to help us better recognize original reporting, surface it more prominently in Search and ensure it stays there longer”.
Google has distributed new instructions to a group of 1,000 human reviewers who will help Google implement this algo. It’s an initiative by Google to power high-quality journalism in twenty-nineteen, the world of fakes.
This news is disturbing to millions of web owners as nobody outside Google actually knows what changes the company is going to implement and it is sure that it will change thousands of business models with it.
While we typically show the latest and most comprehensive version of a story in news results, we’ve made changes to our products globally to highlight articles that we identify as significant original reporting. Such articles may stay in a highly visible position longer. This prominence allows users to view the original reporting while also looking at more recent articles alongside it.Richard Gingras, VP News, Google
There is no absolute definition of original reporting, nor is there an absolute standard for establishing how original a given article is. It can mean different things to different newsrooms and publishers at different times, so our efforts will constantly evolve as we work to understand the life cycle of a story.
According to the company, the 1,000 raters across the globe are instructed to use the highest rating that indeed means very high-quality posts for original news reporting.
It is still not clear what kind of algo will come into existence as we all know that Google is the biggest manipulator of search results and privacy. It will be quite interesting to know whether the new algo will disturb the trending SEO market or not.
